Everton hit with a 10 point deduction!
Everton are sent back down into the relegation zone after they were deducted 10 points for FFP breaches.
The heaviest punishment ever in premier league football has been given to Everton for breaching financial fair play rules which could see them paying millions in compensation to other relegated teams. This is because in recent years Everton have only just survived in the Premier league while other teams like Leeds, Leicester, Burnley and multiple others have gone down into the Championship , when they could of possibly remained a Premier League club if Everton had played it by the books.
The FFP rules are as stated: Clubs are allowed to have a loss of a maximum of £105 million over three years. However Everton have been found guilty of going past this maximum of £105 million by a further £19.5 million, which has been deemed as a serious breach of FFP hence the 10 point deduction they now face.
Everton are due to appeal this punishment in the coming days and have made a statement of how they are 'very disappointed' with the punishment they face, which will come to an end by the end of the current season.
Manchester City and Chelsea are two other teams that are currently under investigation due to FFP. Manchester City face charges that amount up to 115 charges that have yet to come to a conclusion or any punishment because as of this date, no verdict has been given, and Chelsea are also under investigation that has come to light in the past few weeks, due the time period which Roman Abramovich was the owner of the football club.
There was a five day hearing in October where the figure of £124.5 million was the result of Everton's losses which, like mentioned, is £19.4 million over the maximum amount of losses that are accepted. Everton however claim that they have been fully 'transparent' with the Premier League with the way they have gone about there business during these accusations and before they were originally made and that is why they believe this is 'an unjust sporting sanction'. Each of the clubs that claim that they have been effected by this wrongdoing now have a further 28 days to claim against Everton.
This point deduction now leaves Everton joint bottom with Burnley with one point separating them and Sheffield who sit in 18th. The question all Everton's will be asking now is, do Everton have what it takes to overcome this 10 point deduction and to stay in the Premier league.
